We opened our karate classes on Feb 1, 2021, though our Aikido dojo has been around for over two decades (https://larrys18940.wixsite.com/kokikai-aikido-bucks). Our students range from teens through seniors training in a relaxed environment that caters to individual needs. Some students focus on intense workouts, while others focus more on self-defense, kata, or self-improvement. All paths lead to a common goal of controlling yourself, your environment, and those around you in positive and highly effective ways. We're excited to train and grow with new students of all ages and experience levels. Reach out to chat, observe, or participate in a class.
Our head karate instructor, Jeff Marcus, received his first black belt in the 1980's in Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan (Kobayashi) and also holds black belts in Shorin-Ryu Shidokan (Kobayashi), Matsubayashi-Ryu, Shotokan, and Kokikai Aikido. He also spent multiple years each training in Issin-Ryu karate, jujitsu, kung fu, tai chi, tae kwon do, and krav maga. The wide variety of styles is due to a combination of living in various geographies plus a deep desire to study the comparative differences among the arts.
We are currently a dojo in transition (junshibu dojo) to the Shidokan Shorinryu style under system head Seikichi Iha-Sensei. Jeff is ranked in this style and we're in the process of formally having our dojo join the organization. Jeff's direct instructor is Paul Snader-Sensei (9th dan) in Fairlawn, NJ.
We train inside the large well-equipped space built by Generations TKD. After they leave for their well-earned rest, we turn the lights back on and convert the space into karate and aikido dojos.
